London Festival of Contemporary Church Music
Described by The Church Times as "The church equivalent of the BBC Proms", the Festival runs from 10 to 18 May.
Based at St Pancras Parish Church, and continuing to spread across London, with events at Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, Southwark Cathedral and St Clement Danes Church, this unique Festival commands the support of many of the UK’s foremost composers, including Michael Berkeley, Diana Burrell, Jonathan Dove, Michael Finnissy, Sebastian Forbes, Jonathan Harvey, Gabriel Jackson, Cecilia McDowall, Francis Pott, Robert Saxton and, with effect from 2008, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and James MacMillan.
The LFCCM has an unparalleled commissioning record, and new works for the 2008 Festival by Michael Berkeley (50th birthday), Sebastian Forbes, Anthony Powers and Peter Foggitt add to this world-class line-up.
This year's festival includes world, UK and London premieres by Arvo Part (16 May), Alan Gibbs (15 May), Humphrey Clucas (14 May), Graham Ross (18 May).
The festival comprises 28 events in nine days , with lunchtime, teatime and evening performances.
Major ensembles include Vasari Singers (10 May), Gothic Voices (14 May) and The Choir of the Chapels Royal (17 May).
